Lee County is designing the widening of Littleton Road from east of Corbett Road to US 41. The widening of Littleton Road is on the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan to be widened to four lanes. After a detailed traffic analysis it was determined that a three lane roadway, one lane in each direction with a center turn lane (with landscape planting islands), would satisfy the traffic demand. As part of the proposed design, landscape planting islands will be interspersed into the center turn lane to limit the lane usage to that of a left turn lane. This project will tie into the Kismet Parkway/Littleton Road Realignment project that will soon go to construction.
The typical section or what the road would look like includes one 11-foot-wide lane in each direction with a 12-foot-wide center turn lane. The roadway design also includes 4-foot-wide bike lanes and 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. The design will limit the amount of additional right-of-way that may be required.
