Lee County designed the Littleton Road widening from east of Corbett Road to US 41. This segment ties into the Kismet Parkway/NE 24th Avenue realignment project which included the installation of a two-lane roundabout at Corbett Road. The widening of Littleton Road to four lanes is on the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan. After a detailed traffic analysis, it was determined that a three-lane roadway, one lane in each direction with a center turn lane (with landscape planting islands), would satisfy the traffic demand. As part of the design, landscape planting islands will be interspersed into the center turn lane to limit the lane usage to that of a left turn lane.
The typical section of what the road will look like includes one 11-foot-wide lane in each direction with a 12-foot-wide center turn lane. The roadway design also includes 4-foot-wide bike lanes and 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. The design limits the amount of additional right-of-way that may be required.
